Dear Craig,
|
Last year, I was approached by the Spokane School District to help provide Internet service for their outdated computers which students were building and donating to low income families. The program, called TEConnections, was impressive. I'm proud to say that WebBand is participating again this year. Below is more information on the program.

TEConnections™, a student-ran program within Spokane Public Schools' Career & Technical Education's technology classes continues to "connect technology, education and community." Lewis & Clark and Rogers High Schools' teams have distributed 30 computers this year (and over 400 last year) to students who currently do not have a computer in their home. The Havermale TEConnections team opened their year by inviting the Y.W.C.A.'s BUBBLES teens over for a computer hardware training class. BUBBLES stands for: (B)uilding an (U)nderstanding of (B)asic (B)usiness (L)ife and (E)ducation (S)kills. The BUBBLES teens operate a business of making and selling soap. The techies from Havermale have graciously accepted an invite to slip slide on over and learn about the business, as well as make a little soap.
TEConnections is looking forward to building additional educational opportunities for both students and families by establishing partnerships throughout the community. Recent connections are with North Central High School, Americorps, The Spokane Tribe, and TechREACH. They'd be exploring out of school clubs at the middle and high school levels in local and rural communities.
