The service is still down as of 11:45am and an ETA is not known. We apologize for the inconvenience and will post an update when we know that the service has been restored.

(Liberty Lake, WA) – June 12, 2012 – TierPoint, the premier carrier-class and carrier-neutral Data Center services provider in the Inland Northwest, has announced that their data center operations in Liberty Lake, Washington have successfully renewed their SSAE 16 Type II audit. The audit covered all of the TierPoint data centers and services, including Colocation, Cloud Computing, and Managed Services.

The Statement on Auditing Standards (SAS) No. 70 was a widely recognized auditing standard developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) which has been in place since 1992 and was replaced by SSAE 16 last year. The Statement on Standard for Attestation Engagements (SSAE) No. 16 was formally issued in April 2010 with the intent of updating the US service organization reporting standard (i.e. SAS 70) so that it mirrors and complies with the new international service organization reporting standard (ISAE 3402).

“The SSAE 16 standard requires service organizations, like TierPoint, to provide a description of their ‘system’, which is essentially the services provided, along with the supporting processes, policies, procedures, personnel and operational activities that our customers ultimately care about,” remarked Octavio Morales, TierPoint’s COO and General Manager. “Whereas the historical SAS 70 audit required a description of the organization’s ‘controls’, the SSAE 16 description of a ‘system’ is generally regarded as more in-depth and comprehensive than the SAS 70 requirement.”

“Continuing with the Type II framework demonstrates to our customers and prospective customers that we are doing what it takes to test and audit our systems in order to deliver absolutely the best infrastructure services for their organizations,” continued Morales. “The report should give our customers’ comfort that the processes and procedures behind the services they receive have been audited and tested by an independent third party, with no exceptions noted across the board.”

SSAE 16 engagements are generally performed by audit, risk, and control oriented professionals who have experience in accounting, auditing, and information security. A SSAE 16 engagement allows a service organization to have its control policies and procedures evaluated and tested (in the case of a Type II engagement) by an independent party. Very often this process results in the identification of opportunities for improvements in many operational areas.

For more information on SSAE 16, please visit http://www.ssae16.com/.

Nowhere is that clearer than with the Flashback Trojan, a gnarly piece of malware designed to steal personal information by masquerading as very mainstream browser plug-ins. Yesterday Russian antivirus company Dr. Web said that an estimated 600,000 Macs are now infected as a result of users unknowingly installing the software.

WebBand is currently testing a new webmail program. The new program has all the features of the old and adds a few extra to make your experience better. The interface is slightly different, so we wanted to give you some time to play with it before launching it live.

You can review the new system using your own account. Currently all mail is directed to both systems, but the calendar and address book information is only available in the OLD system (we’ll migrate that to the new one when it launches live). To access the new mail, point your browser to http://betamail.webband.com and use your email address and password to log in.

Our hope is to have the system available as our full time mail server in late October/early November. To see a list of the new and improved features, visit http://www.webband.com/webband-webmail-6/.

This ONLY affects webmail. If you use Outlook or another program to download mail or a portable device, you’ll see no changes at all!

Let us know what you think – just click comment on the bottom of this post.
