WebBand is currently testing a new webmail program. The new program has all the features of the old and adds a few extra to make your experience better. The interface is slightly different, so we wanted to give you some time to play with it before launching it live.

You can review the new system using your own account. Currently all mail is directed to both systems, but the calendar and address book information is only available in the OLD system (we’ll migrate that to the new one when it launches live). To access the new mail, point your browser to http://betamail.webband.com and use your email address and password to log in.

Our hope is to have the system available as our full time mail server in late October/early November. To see a list of the new and improved features, visit http://www.webband.com/webband-webmail-6/.

This ONLY affects webmail. If you use Outlook or another program to download mail or a portable device, you’ll see no changes at all!

Let us know what you think – just click comment on the bottom of this post.

Many of us here at WebBand will be riding. We’d like to encourage you to as well. So dust off that bike, oil the chain, tighten the bolts and begin to pedal. Maybe you’ll find a new hobby.

(Liberty Lake, WA) – April 11, 2011 – TierPoint, the premier carrier-class and carrier-neutral Data Center services provider in the Inland Northwest, has announced the launch of Internet Protocol Version 6, commonly known as IPv6. IPv6 is designed to succeed IPv4, which has been the standard on which the Internet and networks have run since 1981.

“As of February of this year (2011) IPv4 address space has been officially depleted,” says Dan Seliger, TierPoint’s CTO. “We don’t expect the need for IPv4 to go away immediately, but being ready for IPv6 this early is a positive for our customers.”

An Internet Protocol (IP) address is similar to a phone number; when you type the number into a browser (for an example, 66.45.162.142) a website will appear (in this case, www.tierpoint.com), or you’ll access a private network. IPv4 was deemed sufficient in the early design of the Internet. It provides an addressing capability of 232 addresses (approximately 4.3 billion addresses). In the 1990’s, it became clear that IPv4 would become exhausted quicker than anticipated. A new protocol, IPv6, was defined to provide an addressing capability of 2128 addresses (approximately 340 undecillion addresses, or 340 trillion groups of one trillion networks each). IPv6 will be supported alongside IPv4 for the foreseeable future as network providers make the transition.

“With the Internet growing as fast as it has the past few years, it is very logical to move to a 128-bit IP addressing scheme,” continued Seliger. “TierPoint has made a very concerted effort to put the hardware and software in place so that when our customers are ready to move to the new IP system, we will be there to support them. We’re very excited to be at the cutting edge of this transition and can provide the expertise required for a company to make the switch.”

If you’d like to know more about how TierPoint can help your company transition from IPv4 to IPv6, please contact them at (509) 688-2555.

About TierPoint
TierPoint empowers businesses with mission critical availability, security and reliability by offering a complete suite of best in class Data Center Services, including Cloud Computing, Colocation, Internet Bandwidth and Network Connectivity, Hosting, Managed Security and Compliance, and Data Backup and Restoration Services to customers throughout the region – allowing customers to leverage TierPoint’s infrastructure to optimize their business objectives.
